Separate issues of legal regulation of the process of training and retraining of judges in the Russian Federation are considered, attention is focused on the lack of a clear position of the legislator to determine the necessary level of education of a candidate for a judge. The forms and methods of retraining of judges in the Russian Federation and the purpose of determining the compliance of state participation in the education of judges with international standards applied in this field are described in sufficient detail. The alternative system of formation of the judicial corps provided for in France is analyzed.
