International legal norms and principles of children’s protection are analyzed in the context of features of their status and age-related capabilities. The author outlines some directions of cooperation between states and priorities of the current Russian legislation concerning such protection. Particular attention is paid to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1989, the other universal treaties, the UN documents and a number of scientific studies dealing with modern understanding of children’s rights and interests.
