The features of the formation and development of smart cities in the Indo-Pacific region are considered using the example of China (Beijing, Shanghai), Japan (Kitakyushu) and India (Indore). An important role in their development is played by “electronic government” and the activity of citizens, for whom access to smart city technologies opens up opportunities to participate in decision-making to improve the environment and quality of life, as well as increases the responsibility of authorities and citizens for urban law and order. Smart city projects prioritize the development of various areas of the urban economy. In China, it is the digitalization of transport, housing, and medical services; in Japan, it is environmental friendliness and safety; in India, it is the use of digital technologies to develop a closed–loop urban economy.
