Smart Sities of Europe: Present and their Future (Review article)

Abstract

The article discusses the specifics of the project (strategy, program) to create smart cities in Europe, such as Linz, Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Bern, Barcelona, Copenhagen. Attention is focused on initiatives aimed at integrating advanced intelligent technologies – the Internet of Things, data analytics, artificial intelligence – into the infrastructure, economy, socio-cultural life of the city in order to create a more convenient and comfortable environment, a healthy environment for residents and employees. The smart cities studied in this article are characterized by a high standard of living, a strong economy, and a commitment to the principles of sustainable development. However, the ongoing urbanization of cities and technological innovations create problems that are solved in cooperation by municipalities, citizens, business representatives, and scientists, taking into account the history, culture, and traditions of these cities. This review article is devoted to these problems and the specifics of smart cities, which have been studied in the new literature by scientists of various specializations.
