Currently, the phenomenon of smart hospitals has emerged as a crucial element of the digital transformation within the healthcare sector and the broader concept of a smart city. This transformation integrates advanced technological solutions, sophisticated data processing mechanisms, automation of modern processes in order to enhance the quality of medical services. An analysis of five scientific articles examining Germany’s best practices in the development and improvement of smart hospitals reveals a growing adoption of electronic health records, interoperability systems, and the integration of medical devices as fundamental components of providing intelligent clinical solutions. A significant and potentially pivotal aspect of Germany’s successful digital transformation is its advanced legal framework. The enactment of the Law on the Future of Hospitals (Krankenhauszukunftgesetz, KHZG) has led to increased funding for digital projects, including the implementation of electronic patient records, telemedicine services, and enhanced data protection measures for healthcare professionals and patients. The review of these articles indicates that smart hospitals constitute an integrated system comprising technologies, data, and legal mechanisms primarily aimed at achieving sustainable and secure modernization of healthcare sector, which is essential to maintain urban digital ecosystems.
