The article considers relatively recent social practices which are typical for smart cities: digital civic participation and city management, environmentally oriented and sharing consumption models, volunteer and cultural-leisure initiatives in the digital environment, etc. It has been demonstrated that year by year, the number of citizens in Russia and abroad are participating in urban governance through digital services, thereby contributing to the smart and sustainable development of the cities and regions where they live. It is noted that the digital model of management and interaction with the urban environment often changes the usual ideas about life in the modern city and requires consideration of specific nuances of legal regulation. It is assumed that the emergence and spread of new digital social practices will significantly change the appearance of smart cities in the future, affecting the norms and rules of life in large cities.
